A novel that sneaks up on you

Alison Espach's hotel-wedding book is funnier and sadder than the cover looks.

The Wedding People (2024)

MINUTECRITIC · Apr 2, 2026

I picked up The Wedding People because it was everywhere and I usually hate that. Then I stayed. A woman checks into a hotel that is hosting a wedding she is not in. That is the setup. The rest is people being messy in a building that wants them to be photogenic.

It is not trying to be Moby-Dick. It is trying to be a night you remember. I finished it. That is rarer than it should be.

The rare 'everyone is reading it' book that I did not resent. Take it on a trip.
