The hold that finally landed

A library hold that lands in late August is the opposite of a publication-day post. The quotes have cooled. The author is on the next city. You get the object without the assignment. That is how a lot of good books should be met: after the internet has found a new object to perform.

Fall lists will start yelling in a week. Ignore them for one more weekend. Finish the hold. If it is good, it will still be good in October. If it is not, you did not buy the hardcover to find out. The public library remains the most honest books desk in the country.

Read it now, while nobody is performing having read it. That is a gift.
