A free night that was not free
I 'paid' with points and still did math at the desk. The math is the stay.
Hotel points, redeemed

Loyalty programs promise to be the countermeasure to dynamic pricing and then become another layer of the same maze. I redeemed a night that looked like a gift and paid a resort fee that felt like a punchline. The room was fine. The feeling was that I had been played, politely.
A boring courtyard that tells you the total up front is, in 2026, a kind of luxury. Screenshot the rate. Check the total. Do not confuse a points number with a price.
Redeem when the cash rate is stupid. Do not redeem because the app sent a push. The app is not your friend.

The three-night minimum
The room is not the story. The stay rules are the story. They always are, the week before a holiday.
