The most important hotel category in America, and the least reviewed as if it were a place.
A courtyard-style airport hotel
MINUTECRITIC · Aug 4, 2026
The midscale airport hotel is not trying to be a destination. It is trying to be a clean bed attached to a parking garage and a 4:40 a.m. shuttle. On those terms, the good ones are a civic service. The bad ones are a fluorescent short story about carpet.
Inspect, in one minute: curtains that meet, a door that latches, a breakfast that does not smell like a wet waffle iron from the hallway. Check the total, not the headline.
Book for the shuttle and the blackout curtains. Eat somewhere else. Leave at dawn.

A festival Sunday rate is a movie ticket with a bed attached
Toronto is mid-fest. The room is no longer a place to sleep. It is a line item in someone else's premiere.

The three-night minimum
The room is not the story. The stay rules are the story. They always are, the week before a holiday.

A free night that was not free
