A policy book that wants you to build something

Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson argue that the American left forgot how to make things. I kept nodding, then arguing with the page.

Abundance (2025)

MINUTECRITIC · May 8, 2026

Abundance is a book about why we cannot build housing, energy, or a train on time, and why the people who say they want those things keep getting in the way of them. It is clearer than most policy books. It is also a little pleased with itself, which is the Klein brand.

I dog-eared pages and still wanted more about who loses when you 'just build.' Read it anyway. The pile of American nonfiction is full of worse.

Worth it if you care how a country actually gets a train built. Not a beach read.
