The smell was the brand
I walked in and the lobby hugged me with cologne. The bed did not follow through.

Boutique hotels sell you a smell, a lamp, and the idea that you are not in a chain. Sometimes that is true. This time the room was small, the music in the hall was a vibe, and someone else's conversation was my white noise. The lamp was nice. I wanted the lamp to be a wall.
I am happy these places exist. I am happier when they remember sleep is the service. Score is for the night I had, which was Instagram's night more than mine.
Pretty pictures. Light sleep. Book it for a photo, not a rest, unless they have actually fixed the walls.

A festival Sunday rate is a movie ticket with a bed attached
Toronto is mid-fest. The room is no longer a place to sleep. It is a line item in someone else's premiere.

The three-night minimum
The room is not the story. The stay rules are the story. They always are, the week before a holiday.

A free night that was not free
I 'paid' with points and still did math at the desk. The math is the stay.
