The sci-fi novel adaptation hit theaters over the weekend and has gotten near perfect reviews across the board. A middle school science teacher (Ryan Gosling) heads to space as part of a mission to save Earth from a mysterious substance that is killing the sun and almost all other stars. The story is told with a mix of flashbacks as Gosling can't remember why he ended up there as he was originally only supposed to be part of training the mission team.
Mix in befriending an alien and some cool space scenes, will Gosling be able to save Earth or will he die trying? The story feels like a mix of science nerds meet Guardians of the Galaxy. Overall, I enjoyed it but it is not a near perfect film as many suggest. This one gets three out of four Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.
