A holiday matinee is still a better idea than a holiday algorithm

The multiplex is open. The offices are not. That split is the whole review of the day.

Labor Day theatrical (2026)

Pat G. · Sep 7, 2026

Labor Day is a weird movie day and I like it. The people who would talk through a thriller are at a lake. The people who would check a phone during a quiet picture are at a lake. You can get a seat. You can get a leftover adult title that is about to be buried under Toronto quotes. I am not going to pretend this is a secret. It is a calendar.

Is the movie always good? Of course not. Holiday inventory is a mix of holdovers and something a studio parked because it did not have a toy. I will still take that over a pause-button afternoon that turns a two-hour film into four hours of snacks and notifications. If you have the day, spend one of the hours in the dark. Two and a half out of four Reese's Peanut Butter Cups for the habit. The feature gets its own cups when I have actually watched it.

If a screen is open, go. Two and a half Reese's for the day. The picture still has to earn the other cups.
