August TV is leftovers and football

Late August on television is a leftover plate. The shows that still have new episodes are either sports or something that missed its own landing. Everything else is a 'you might like' tile hoping you forgot you already quit. The preseason games are filling the hours the dramas abandoned, which is honest scheduling if not honest football.

A holdover can still be good. It is just not new. If you have one series you never finished, this is the week. After Labor Day the calendar gets loud again and the leftover will be buried under a fall premiere that also might not be good. Score the week, not the myth of a prestige summer.

Pick one leftover. Mute the rest. Football is about to take the remote anyway.
