Airplanes, hanging, still doing the thing
The hangar in Chantilly that makes kids look up. I looked up too.
Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy · Chantilly, Virginia
MINUTECRITIC · Jul 12, 2026
Udvar-Hazy is the Smithsonian as a giant toy box. Space shuttle, Concorde, a lot of other machines that used to be impossible. I went because I had out-of-town family and I stayed because I am not dead inside.
It is crowded on weekends and worth it anyway. Cultural experiences do not have to be difficult. Sometimes they just have to be large and true.
Go on a weekday if you can. It is a museum that still feels like a warehouse of miracles. That is the highest compliment.

September's most reliable cultural object is a numbered rundown of things you have not seen yet. Treat it like a circular, not a commandment.

Get dressed for a lawn, one more time
