A jazz set, District of Columbia

Ninety minutes, no phones if you can help it
A small room, a piano, people who showed up on purpose. That is still a cultural miracle.

I am not a jazz snob. I just had a night where a quartet played for people who had paid to listen, and it reset my week. No screens. A little talking from the bandstand. A drink that cost too much. Fine.
You do not need to know the standards. You need to sit still. That is a music review and also a manners review. Both felt overdue.
Go. Sit near the back if you are restless. Do not talk during the ballad.

The last outdoor bill of August
The lawn, the merch, the 9:40 start. Summer music is a weather system, and it is about to break.

A mid-size DC show

A room, not a livestream
I paid too much to stand in a room that smelled like beer and a PA. I would do it again.
