Madden, on opening Sunday

Week 1 in the sim is a second league with worse weather
The console season starts the same day as the real one. That is not a coincidence. It is a license.
Madden, on opening Sunday
MINUTECRITIC · Sep 13, 2026
Opening Sunday is when the licensed football game stops being a summer demo and starts being a parallel slate. Same teams. Same week. Cleaner uniforms. No weather that actually ruins a throw. The appeal is control. The limit is the same every year: the product is a broadcast without the thing that makes a broadcast matter, which is that nobody knows the ending.
Play it between windows if the slate has a gap. Do not confuse the sim with coverage. One is a toy that rented a league. The other is the league, with commercials.
Fine as a toy during a window you are not watching. A poor substitute for the broadcast you already paid for.

Madden is a calendar, not a game
You do not play it because it is new. You play it because the season is about to be.

The dynasty that ate August
I lost a Saturday to recruiting. That is either an endorsement or a cry for help.

Walking, again, with more toys
Kojima asked me to deliver packages in a ruined world a second time. I did it. I am a little mad about that.
