The National Mall, in August
On-line review · 38/60 pts
The free trip you keep postponing
It is free, it is crushing, and it is still worth doing once a year if you live here.
The National Mall, in August · Washington, D.C.
MINUTECRITIC · Aug 8, 2026
The Mall in August is a dare. The grass is tired. The people are from everywhere. The Smithsonian is still one of the best free things in the country and we treat it like furniture. I did two museums and a long walk and I was cooked, and I was glad.
If you are showing someone the city, this is still the move. If you live here, you have no excuse. Hydrate like it is a sport.
Go at opening. Water. A hat. Pick two museums, not seven. Leave before the monument is a frying pan.

Holiday travel is weather. You do not argue with weather.
The last summer movement of the year. Airports and highways tell the truth. Advice does not.
