Toronto is on day four. You still do not have to be there.

Carpets, surprise screenings, and a city that will be itself again on the 21st. The useful coverage names dates after the festival.

TIFF runs through September 20. Sunday is not the beginning and it is not the end. It is the part of the week when the hallway starts talking like a verdict. Eisenberg's The Debut is on a downtown screen with Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti. Alpha Gang has a night premiere. Snyder added a surprise. Seyfried walked a carpet. That is a day's inventory, not a year.

What actually moved: a handful of titles that already have a life after Toronto — a theatrical date, a streamer slot, a sale that will be announced as if it were a review. What was only loud: the claim that missing a Sunday screening is falling behind culture. It is not. It is being the audience. The pictures that matter will have to survive a room that is not full of publicists.
