Labor Day is a season break. The industry will not take it.

Festivals start talking. Football takes the remote. The summer leftover gets buried on purpose.

The last weekend of August is supposed to be a pause. It is not. Fall festivals have already started selling the next three months as a comeback for adult movies. Football is about to take every open hour. Streaming apps will bury the summer leftovers under a row of tiles labeled 'coming in September.'

What actually moved this week: a late-August theatrical that is trying to live as an adult picture instead of a toy; sports media shifting from camp reports to real kickoff; live music leaving the lawn. What was only loud: another round of awards-season positioning from people who have not seen the movies they are positioning.

You do not need a dispatch from a party. You need to know what is still in a theater this weekend, what is about to become a Sunday habit, and what can wait until the lists start yelling. That is the briefing. The rest is a siren.
