College is already loud. The NFL is about to put a bow on a season that has been for sale since April.

American September is a stacked remote. College football already took the daytime. The US Open is still stretching matches into the night in Queens. The NFL is a few days from treating a midweek as a national holiday. None of this is accidental. It is a product calendar. The sport is real. The packaging is the story the league wants you to live inside.

Kickoff week used to mean the games were back. Now it means the app is back, the betting partner is back, the documentary series is back, the fantasy notification is back, and also there are games. The league has spent the offseason selling you the season as a lifestyle. By the time a ball is snapped in anger, a lot of people will feel they have already consumed the year.

That feeling is the point. A product launch is supposed to make the warehouse feel like a premiere. If you are a little tired of football before the first snap, that is not a personal failure. That is a successful preseason of content. The honest way to watch is to admit the difference between a game and a feed. A game has a score that cannot be recut. A feed can be recut until the game is a garnish.

There is still a clean way through the week. Pick a game. Watch it. Let the rest of the inventory be inventory. Fantasy can be a game you play with friends; it can also be a second job that makes you hate a backup running back you will never meet. Sports are better when they are allowed to be finite. A Sunday that contains one game is a Sunday. A Sunday that contains seven windows and a parlays tutorial is a shift.

When the first night arrives, watch if you want. Mute if you want. The score will be there in the morning either way. The only trick the launch needs to succeed is convincing you that absence is a kind of failure. It is not. Absence is how you still have a life when the product is designed to fill every hour between now and February.
