Cable panels are the comfort food of American politics coverage. They are also a machine for turning a 200-page bill into a mood. I watched a half hour this week in which nobody named a section of anything. They named each other.

If you want a team, the panel will assign you one. If you want to know what happened, you will have to leave. We will keep pointing at the door.
