Awards season is now a twelve-month traffic jam

Entertainment news used to have a calendar. Festivals in fall, campaigns in winter, a broadcast in spring, a summer of forgetting. That calendar is now a roundabout. Studios park prestige titles wherever a hole opens. Streamers park them wherever a subscriber graph dips.

The result is not more great work. It is more work asking to be treated as great. A film is 'essential,' then it is a statistic, then it is a discounted tile. Commentary that only repeats that loop is a press release with better verbs.

What actually moved this month: theatrical windows kept shrinking for anything that is not a brand, while a handful of original pictures still found a room. That split is the industry. The statues are the afterparty.
